Child
Support
Most
state child support laws are fairly
fixed by statutory guidelines, and
Florida is no exception. The Florida
Child Support Guidelines govern the
amount of child support paid. Child
support in Florida is based on the
net income of both parents. The cost
of daycare, health insurance and
recurring un-reimbursed medical
expenses are factored into the
Guideline amounts. A departure from
the Guidelines is possible in
certain situations. Modifications of
the original support order can be
requested when financial
circumstances change.
The Court may issue an
Income Deduction Order (IDO), which
requires the employer of the person
paying child support or alimony to
deduct the support from the paying
spouse’s paycheck and send it
directly to the receiving spouse, or
to a State depository where
distribution is made to the
receiving spouse.
